This book, published in conjunction with the 2026 UIA World Congress of Architects in Barcelona, explores spatial practices that foster process of appropriation and transformation of the inhabited environment - both human and more-than-human individual and collective - and the potential of time as a design tool.

BC architects & studies & materials contributed "Grounded Futures," a proposal for a low-carbon return to soft, regenerative mineral matter rooted in Barcelona's unique geology. The project explores the concept of a new "biogeology," advocating for the combination of algae with the city's calcium-rich construction and excavation waste to create situated biomineralised building materials. The text argues for a relational understanding of architecture, where buildings are no longer seen as isolated structures made of neutral materials, but as temporary constellations deeply connected to their local ecologies, material flows, and communities. Through maps, small-scale prototypes, and tactile elements, they illustrate how reintroducing these materials exactly where they belong can deeply shift our architectural framework and drive a more conscious, connected building practice within the bioregion.
