Earth blocks offer a potential of a low carbon, mass building material. It's one of the most ancient building techniques. But since industrialisation, new opportunities emerged.
During this workshop we gave a theoretical background on the history and traditional use of earth blocks, but also the wide range of contemporary production processes.
Practically we produce a compressed earth blocks together and learn how to mason with it. The end-goal is a hands-on understanding of the potential of earth bricks, through the construction of 1:1 wall set-ups. Different type of earth block, earth mortars are used to see a range of application opportunities.
