On October 22th, hosted by BC studies in the framework of the Fall School, we are gathering at Stadsatelierdeville.brussels for a roundtable discussion on "Bioregional Design".
What if knowledge of the surroundings becomes a core value in design practice?
Materials are becoming increasingly scarce and cost-prohibitive. Since the industrial era, the global procurement of resources from distant markets has frequently undercut the financial viability of local production. The resilience and sustainability of our construction sector depend on a more rigorous understanding of the potential inherent in regional material flows, local soils and existing built infrastructure. A bioregion transcends administrative borders, defining a territory through its natural logic. How can architects, urban planners and policy-makers play a proactive role in raising awareness about and actively engaging with the bioregion?
Speakers:
- Pauline Lefebvre (FNRS + ULB)
- Dieter Leyssens (51N4E + KUL Leuven)
